Masked characters will invade the Church Street area, bringing excitement and mystery to the streets. Don’t miss these enchanting performances!
Drama for Elders is part of Dendê Collective’s ongoing commitment to creative engagement with older adults. Sessions are free, fun, and designed to support wellbeing, self-expression, and friendship through the arts. Whether exploring pantomime, mask work, or clowning, each term brings a new creative focus.
Masked characters will invade the Church Street area, bringing excitement and mystery to the streets. Don’t miss these enchanting performances! These presentations will be the result of a four-week community project where participants will engage in making masks and costumes, learning how to bring these creations to life. They will also explore masks from other cultures. In three shows, they will present their work in public spaces around Church Street:
Tuesday, 27 Aug, 3 PM - Lisson Street Gardens: Participants will use Larval masks inspired by the Swiss carnival from the city of Basel.
Thursday, 29 Aug, 3 PM - The Church Street Triangle: They will showcase masks from the Italian Commedia dell'Arte.
Saturday, 31 Aug, 1:30-3 PM - Around Church Street Market: Participants will wear the masks they made and bring those characters to life as they interact with the public around Church Street.
